Cleanliness
Your house should be cleaned in a professional manner.
It should look and smell fresh. Remember to clean your
oven, refrigerator, and scour your shower or tub’s
glass doors. Clean windows and blinds.
Interior Paint
Touch-up any area that may need it, and re-paint any
brightly colored walls with neutral colors. Ask your
Realtor® if this is necessary.
Furniture
Position your furniture to make the rooms appear larger
and make the floor plan feel more open. Remove personal
items from the furniture. Minimize decorative items.
If necessary, put several pieces of furniture in storage.
Carpet and Flooring
Have your carpets professionally cleaned. (Remember
to keep the receipt.) Ask your Realtor® if it is
necessary to replace any flooring.
Personal Possessions
Display a minimal number of family photos so the potential
buyer can view the home as his or her own. Store collectible
items, knick-knacks, trophies, and souvenirs out of
sight.
Closets
Clear out as much clothing, shoes and accessories as
possible. Remove items from the floor and have a minimal
amount of things on your top shelves to make your closet
look more spacious.
Kitchen
Pack things you seldom use to make your kitchen appear
larger. (Cookbooks, rarely used appliances, extra china,
etc.) Buyers like having plenty of storage. Keep countertops
as clear as possible. Store small kitchen appliances
out of sight.
Basements, Garages,
Attics, and Sheds
These areas should be as empty as possible so buyers
can envision having space to store their own possessions.
If necessary, rent a storage unit.
